I don't know where the summer went but the count down is on ... I go back to work in less than 3 weeks. As this reality began to sink in, I realized I had not finished as many projects as I hoped. One thing I have enjoyed this summer is seeing movies ... Despicable Me 2 is one of my favorites this summer. As I was watching this movie one clip in particular stood out to me ... Agnes practicing lines for school. One personal goal I have this year is to do a better job of teaching fluency as well as change how I teach it. I went to Youtube and searched for this particular clip from the movie. I cannot wait to show my students what I mean by ... reading like a robot!
Future projects ... using QR codes for my library and a fluency center with mini reader's theaters, poems, and more!
I am curious how people hold students accountable for comprehension during silent reading time, I am looking into using QR codes to facilitate before, during, and after questions in books, hoping the students ponder them while reading. (The problem is that I only have 2 iPads.)
My kiddos love to sing so we are always thinking of new songs. I felt as though we spent too much time moving from desks to the floor for read alouds and such. I made this song up to help them focus on getting to the floor as well as being ready to listen right away.
This is the Way We Push in our Chair
Tune: Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush
This is the way we push in our chair, push in our chair, push in our chair.
This is the way we push in our chair to walk to the carpet.
This is the way we walk to the carpet, walk to the carpet, walk to the carpet.
This is the way we walk to the carpet to sit and listen.
This is the way we sit and listen, sit and listen, site and listen.
This is the way we sit and listen, ready to learn.
Hope you enjoy!
I am excited to get reading and math centers started soon in my room. One activity I have been very excited to do is with sight words includes using a computer keyboard. I went on to google and searched for one that I could print out. I found this one on teachnet.com, Keyboard . I will have the words on notecards and this keyboard for them to practice on.
Well here it goes, my first blog as a first year teacher. Wow! I cannot believe how much there is to learn. College does not prepare you. Thanks to my wonderful mentors and friends, I am lucky to be surviving! I hope to update this at least once a week. Hopeful, share some new and interesting ideas, as well as some feelings and experiences on my trek through my first year!
